Nadia de los Santos
"Nadia de los Santos (Pereira) earned her BFA in Painting from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. She also studied at Parsons the New School in New York City. She has worked as a fine artist and graphic designer in her home city Bombay (India), Minneapolis, Virginia Beach, and now Colombo (Sri Lanka).
During her 2 years in Colombo, she has continued to collect papers and random scraps she found, be it from Pettah or a little Chinese grocery store in Kollupittiya and turned them into little hand bound books. She and her close friend Casey Burkett started this together in Colombo in 2016. Nadia passed this on to her students, collecting anything from Burger King wrappers, to Cassava chips, and Kit Kat, old exam papers, useless printouts and left over fabrics from factories and student garments. Everything in these books is made into a new experience from something once the mundane, overlooked, and neglected. After all, everyone loves a second chance at things and these books do that in a small way - addressing the overwhelming trash epidemic in Sri Lanka, with hope for change."
